October 15th Issue of Greenlane Digest

IN THE NEWS

Greenlane (TSX:GRN) is a pioneer in the rapidly emerging renewable natural gas (RNG) market. We work with waste producers, gas utilities, and project developers to turn low-value biogas into a valuable low-carbon and carbon-negative clean energy resource.

Greenlane is a pure play in the RNG space, offering multiple core biogas upgrading technologies, in use and proven in the industry today. Biogas upgrading sales are forecasted by industry to grow at a minimum 30% compound annual growth rate (CAGR) over the next five years in North America and Europe. Our demonstrated leadership in biogas upgrading, scope and breadth of product offerings, and 30+ years’ industry experience are fierce competitive advantages.

Today, we are a trusted partner globally and are ranked number one in installed capacity, having sold more than 125 biogas upgrading systems into 19 countries and counting. We’ve learned a lot along the way. First to market in 12 of the 19 countries where our systems have been sold, we’re also proud to have supplied the systems for the largest RNG production facilities in North America and Europe, respectively.

Through the Greenlane Digest, our goal is to provide weekly updates and the latest articles on the RNG industry. Make sure you forward our newsletter to your contacts!

Zero-emissions transport and energy infrastructure company Nikola Corporation has joined forces with OPAL Fuels to develop hydrogen fuelling stations and use RNG in hydrogen production. OPAL Fuels, which specialises in delivering RNG and renewable fuelling infrastructure for heavy-duty truck fleets, will work with Nikola to co-develop and co-market hydrogen refuelling infrastructure, accelerating the adoption of heavy-duty zero-emission fuel-cell vehicles. OPAL Fuels has built more than 350 RNG fuelling station projects across the US.

Saoradh Enterprise Partners (SEP) and one of its portfolio companies, X3Energy, have partnered to enhance the availability of RNG in Colorado. SEP, a cleantech venture capital and research firm based in Boulder, acquired a minority ownership interest in X3CNG Colorado through its advanced fuel vehicles and technologies fund. X3CNG Colorado operates the largest network of public access CNG fuelling stations along the Front Range, primarily used by commercial and government fleets, with all locations to soon offer 100% RNG to select customers. The state of Colorado has a new $5.4 billion transportation bill that offers robust incentives and support for advanced fuels like RNG.

BGE is the first utility in Maryland to gain regulatory approval for the use of RNG on its gas distribution system. Approval of BGE’s RNG tariff from the Maryland Public Service Commission (PSC) comes as the state’s first RNG plant nears completion in Howard County. The food waste-to-RNG plant is anticipated to produce gas in the first quarter of 2022 and will generate enough gas to power the equivalent of nearly 5,000 homes’ annual usage.

The EU is fully immersed in an energy transition to reduce GHG emissions and increase the use of clean energy sources, which includes phasing out coal and aging nuclear plants. While the share of renewable electricity is increasing, the European Commission finds that the bloc is still 90 percent dependent on imported fossil gas with not enough gas to heat homes and supply industries in the post-pandemic recovery, and refill stocks before the winter. The EU should seize this opportunity to push for the deployment of higher shares of already available renewable gas produced within EU borders, such as biomethane. Within the mix of renewable gases, biomethane is scalable already today and its role in the short and long run should be better assessed in the framework of the European Green Deal.
