Greenlane Update, October 2026

Welcome to our monthly recap, where we combine the latest in the RNG industry with exclusive Greenlane Renewables updates, as we collectively navigate the path to a more sustainable future.

Some great industry developments are at work as we continue to cover the RNG space!

Greenlane Product News

Replacing spent H₂S removal media is a cost that keeps coming back. Greenlane's Cascade H₂S uses a regenerative chemical solution for bulk H₂S removal from biogas. The solution is regenerated, elemental sulfur is separated out, and the solution returns to the scrubbing tower.

Capital cost is similar to a sacrificial media system, at only 15-30% of the operating cost. No oxygen is required, and none is added to the treated gas. For projects with tight O₂ injection limits, that's one less problem to manage.

Within the system's design flow and H₂S limits, treated gas leaves below 100 ppm H₂S. Optional polishing takes it to 4 ppm or less. What are media replacements costing your site each year? Reach out to discuss your H₂S loading and estimate the savings.

Greenlane exhibited at Value of Biogas West in Vancouver (October 6-8), with both Brad Douville, CEO, and Maria de la Orden, Business Development Director, North America, taking part in panel discussions.

Brad joined the closing executive panel, "Executive Hot Takes: What's Holding Biogas Back - & What's Next?". Chris Perry, Board Chair for the Canadian Biogas Association and President of GrowTEC, moderated the session, which also brought together Chase Edgelow, CEO of EverGen Infrastructure) and Phillip Arbrary, CEO of Taurus RNG to tackle the policy, project finance, and technology barriers shaping Canada's biogas and RNG sector.

On the final day of the conference, Maria joined Andres Palayo (Ammongas), Antonio Saavedra (Sysadvance North America), and Clayton Selsmeyer (Prodeval) on a panel moderated by Sarah Stadnyk (Canadian Biogas Association). The discussion explored the direction of innovation in biogas technology, how technology providers are differentiating themselves in a competitive market, and which advances stand to have the greatest impact on project economics over the next decade.

Commissioner for Energy Dan Jørgensen at European Biomethane Week 2026: Biomethane is a Strategic Asset for Europe’s energy security

EU Commissioner for Energy and Housing Dan Jørgensen put energy security and independence at the heart of Europe’s energy transition, highlighting biomethane as a strategic European asset that can strengthen security while supporting climate action. Speaking at the European Biomethane Week 2026 plenary conference in Brussels, the Commissioner stressed the continued need for renewable molecules such as biogas and biomethane in the energy mix.

“There is nothing more relevant than security. Yes, we need to look at prices and at flexibility, but independence needs to be the priority. Second thing is that climate change is here, and we know we need to act fast and do way more. Renewables play a big part to transition away from polluting electrons, but we will still need molecules and biogas biomethane is a part of those solutions.” EU Energy Commissioner Dan Jørgensen.

Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners invests in Via Verde, Italian biomethane platform

Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP), through its Advanced Bioenergy Fund II (ABF II), has reached final investment decision (FID) on Via Verde, an Italian biomethane platform. ABF II invests primarily in the development, construction, and operation of biogas plants across Europe, converting agricultural waste and other sustainable feedstock into biomethane.

Via Verde represents ABF II's first investment and marks CIP's entry into the Italian biomethane market. The investment will create local jobs and supply domestically produced biomethane, which will replace imported fossil gas, supporting both Italy's energy independence and decarbonization efforts.

Brazil's Biomethane Market Surges with Key Expansion in Rio Grande do Sul

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Brazil's bioenergy market--specifically the biomethane and renewable natural gas (RNG) segment--continues to gain momentum following announcements from companies such as Apolo, Solví, and CYG3, with notable traction in the waste-to-RNG sector.

This growth is largely driven by Brazil's Fuel of the Future Law, which mandates greenhouse gas emission reduction targets for the natural gas market starting in 2026 through biomethane incentives. The initial target is set at 0.5% for 2026, with provision for gradual increases up to a 10% ceiling in subsequent years.

RNG is a pipeline-quality natural gas that serves as an advanced biofuel for transportation and power generation. In waste-to-RNG operations, the fuel is derived by conditioning and upgrading raw landfill biogas produced through the anaerobic digestion of organic municipal and industrial waste. RNG is also increasingly produced from agricultural residues like vinasse and filter cake generated during ethanol production. Illustrating this trend, Usina Uberaba is advancing a US$16 million waste-to-RNG addition at its ethanol complex in Minas Gerais.
