Greenlane Advances Its Next-Generation Landfill Gas Upgrading Platform with New Patent Filing for Innovative Linear Nitrogen Rejection Technology

~New intellectual property enables Cascade LF product line to deliver even higher performance and lower cost, strengthening leadership in RNG innovation~

On Monday, October 20th, Greenlane announced the filing of a new patent application for a Linear Nitrogen Rejection Unit (NRU) as part of its Cascade LF product line, the company’s next-generation landfill gas upgrading technology. The Company revealed Cascade LF to customers last month and is quoting it now incorporating the Linear NRU. The Linear NRU enables Cascade LF to achieve even higher methane recovery performance at a lower cost. These improvements are made possible when this new intellectual property is combined with the improvements achieved through the Company’s other patent applications filed within the last twelve months. As such, the Linear NRU builds upon the previously announced Cascade LF innovations, reinforcing the Company’s technology leadership in the production of biomethane or renewable natural gas (“RNG”). Higher performance and lower cost systems enable RNG project developers and owners to enhance revenue generating RNG output from their assets while minimizing upfront investment, making RNG projects more accessible and scalable.

“This patent filing marks another important milestone in our commitment to customer-focused innovation and relentless pursuit of improving the state-of-the-art of technology in our industry,” said Brad Douville, CEO of Greenlane.

Mexico’s Energy Overhaul Reshapes Natural Gas Rules, Allows RNG Injection

In October, Natural Gas Intelligence reported that Mexico’s government published secondary legislation affecting its oil, natural gas and electricity sectors, and embedded provisions to allow direct injection of renewable natural gas (RNG) into the gas grid.

This is a notable regulatory shift in Latin America, opening new market pathways where previously RNG injection may have been restricted or commercially uncertain. It indicates increasing recognition of RNG within national energy-policy frameworks and potentially signals further bilateral or regional investment opportunities.

Canada a Key Market for RNG Despite Shifting Political Tides

According to Biomass Magazine, this spring bore witness to one of the great comebacks of Canadian political history. The Liberal Party, unpopular and road weary after a decade in power, was energized at the eleventh hour by a new leader and new sense of mission.

On April 28, Prime Minister Mark Carney landed a convincing win in the 2025 federal election. This outcome would have been unthinkable at Christmas, when the governing party was polling in the low 20 percents.

The climate policy legacy of the Trudeau government, first elected in 2015, was impressive but beleaguered. The Greenhouse Gas Pollution Pricing Act of 2018 established a national price on carbon, providing the legal foundation for both consumer-facing and industrial levies.

Commissioner Jørgensen highlights strategic role of biogases at opening ceremony of European Biomethane Week 2025

At the opening ceremony of European Biomethane Week 2025 in Brussels, EU Commissioner for Climate Action Dan Jørgensen underscored the growing importance of biogases and biomethane in achieving Europe’s 2040 climate targets. Speaking to industry and policy stakeholders, Jørgensen reaffirmed that biogases will play a central role in reducing greenhouse-gas emissions, decarbonizing transport, and ensuring Europe’s energy security. He called biomethane a “home-grown renewable” that strengthens both climate and economic resilience.

The Commissioner also emphasized scaling investment to reach the 2030 target of 35 billion cubic metres of biomethane—a goal introduced in the REPowerEU Plan. The event, organized by the European Biogas Association (EBA), showcased advancements in feedstock efficiency, upgrading technologies, and cross-sector integration of biomethane into the EU energy system. These policy signals strengthen market confidence for European RNG developers and technology providers such as Greenlane Renewables.

Cross-sector Fleets Sign Fuel Deals With Clean Energy Fuels Corp. to Supply Clean Renewable Natural Gas

Clean Energy Fuels Corp. announced a series of new agreements with customers across the U.S. that expand the use of renewable natural gas (RNG) in transportation fleets — including supply deals that encompass fueling infrastructure, operations, and maintenance. The company emphasized that RNG offers a “proven, economical and scalable solution that is ready now,” highlighting that these agreements span industries and vehicle types, and deliver performance at a “significant discount to diesel.”

The deals include a range of fleet and fueling applications: for example, a milk cooperative will receive 200,000 gallons of RNG for its trucks; a trucking company will source 250,000 gallons annually; a fueling station operator is securing 180,000 gallons per year for its site; a waste-hauler will be supplied ~300,000 gallons for its fleet — and more. These developments reinforce RNG’s expanding role outside utilities and into hard-to-abate sectors such as waste, transit, and heavy-duty transport — aligning with the growth opportunities for upgrading technology providers like Greenlane.
