Greenlane Renewables Signs Two Service Contracts With International Energy Company

On November 6th, Greenlane announced two service agreements signed with an international energy company for two of its dairy RNG project sites in the United States for which Greenlane previously supplied the biogas upgrading systems. Greenlane is expanding its presence in North and South America through maintenance contracts of its 3-tiered service offerings branded as Bronze, Silver and Gold designed to meet diverse customer needs. The customer's name has not been disclosed at this time.

“With over 20 biogas upgrading systems commissioned in the last two years and over 145 systems deployed globally in total, Greenlane has a large target customer base for our enhanced service offerings executed by our growing team of talented service specialists,” said Brad Douville, CEO of Greenlane. “We have expanded our offerings through our new, turn-key H2S media change-out service, which so far has been well received, having completed four of them in the past five months.”

“Greenlane's third-quarter performance demonstrates our commitment to diligent completion of biogas upgrading system contracts, disciplined cost management and realizing operational efficiencies, leading to an increase in revenue over the same quarter last year and a substantial improvement in our cash balance and Adjusted EBITDA,” said Brad Douville, CEO of Greenlane. “We have adapted and implemented changes to our cost structure appropriate for the opportunities in front of us through a reduction in workforce. Our stated goal of achieving positive Adjusted EBITDA for the full year depended upon signing new biogas upgrading system contracts that have experienced delays associated with our customers’ final decisions to start construction. As a consequence, while we maintain our goal of positive Adjusted EBITDA, we have determined that it will not be achieved in 2024.”

Turning Residue Into a Resource: Airdep's Success in Tuscany

Greenlane's wholly-owned subsidiary Airdep S.r.l. (“Airdep”) was featured in the Biogas World Magazine: Italy edition. In 2023, Airdep installed its DBC 2000 series biogas desulfurization unit in Tuscany, Italy, achieving a significant milestone in reducing hydrogen sulfide (H2S) levels from 12,000 ppm to less than 80 ppm at a flow rate of 2000 Nm3/h. This innovation marked a breakthrough in pollutant abatement, chemical savings, and reduced maintenance costs, with the client recouping their investment within a year. The unit, replacing traditional activated carbon systems, transforms H2S into elemental sulfur, a valuable agricultural resource. Airdep also developed systems to eliminate volatile organic compounds and reduce ammonia, promoting sustainable energy recovery.

The American Biogas Council Issues Statement on California Air Resources Board Approval of Amendments to Low Carbon Fuel Standard

California’s Air Resources Board (CARB) recently voted to approve amendments to the state’s Low Carbon Fuel Standard (LCFS). The changes impact the biogas industry and its role in delivering fuel and greenhouse gas emission (GHG) reductions to California. Patrick Serfass, Executive Director of the American Biogas Council, issued the following statement in response:

“Today’s approval of LCFS program amendments by the California Air Resources Board provides the clear signal to the biogas development market that is needed to facilitate and encourage continued investments in new biogas projects. Biogas systems capture potent methane emissions, supply a carbon-negative fuel, and provide real emissions reductions and real results to decarbonize California’s transportation sector.

UPS Pushes for Carbon Neutrality with Diversified Low-Carbon Strategies, Electrification

UPS has set a target to achieve 100% carbon neutrality by 2050, leveraging a mix of alternative fuels, fleet electrification, and operational efficiencies to meet its sustainability goals. The plan includes milestones like using 40% alternative fuels in ground operations by 2025, sourcing 25% of its facilities’ power from renewables by 2025, and cutting CO2 per delivered package in half by 2035, said Gordon Reed, UPS director of industrial engineering.

The company employs compressed natural gas (CNG) and hybrid vehicles for suburban operations with average ranges of 160 km, liquefied natural gas (LNG) and renewable natural gas (RNG) for regional routes spanning 650-965 km, and electric and ethanol-powered vehicles for city centers with ranges under 95 km.

Divert and PG&E Announce First-of-its-Kind Interconnection in California

As part of Divert’s mission to Protect the Value of Food™, they announced a first-of-its-kind interconnection in the state of California to address the wasted food crisis. Divert’s facility in Turlock, California is now processing unsold food products into carbon-negative renewable energy, which is being injected into PG&E’s natural gas transmission line.

The Turlock Integrated Diversion & Energy Facility will be able to process 100,000 tons of unsold food products a year. Nearly 225,000 MMBtu of Renewable Natural Gas (RNG) will be delivered into PG&E’s system. Divert’s facility will also mitigate approximately 23,000 metric tons of CO2 emissions annually, equivalent to removing approximately 5,000 gas-powered cars from the road.

Could There be a Connection Between AI and NG/RNG?

In a Reuters article, Chevron CEO Michael Wirth criticized U.S. President Joe Biden's administration for what he described as "attacks on the natural gas” industry and emphasized the crucial role of Permian natural gas in powering the rapid growth of artificial intelligence (AI).

The CEO’s remarks followed new government plans over policies to prevent power-hungry AI data centers from undercutting U.S. climate goals. Last week, the White House launched a task force on AI Datacenter Infrastructure to coordinate policies in line with the government's economic and environmental goals.
