In our new video, Nitrogen Removal from Landfill Gas, our CTO, Dale Goudie, shares test results showing breakthrough methane recovery performance of up to 99.5% with the new Linear Nitrogen Rejection Unit (NRU), which sits at the heart of Greenlane’s next-generation Cascade LF landfill gas upgrading system. Dale explains how the Linear NRU removes nitrogen through a simplified, stepwise methane gas enrichment process that uses fewer and smaller adsorption beds than conventional equilibrium PSA technology. For our Portuguese-language website, our Vice President of Engineering, Dan Bernal, provides a Portuguese-language version of the presentation. This new approach eliminates the wasteful internal gas recycling step while targeting higher methane recovery, lower costs, and lower technology risk.

Biomethane Mechanism: Connecting buyers and sellers

The European Commission has officially launched the Biomethane Mechanism, a key initiative under the EU Energy and Raw Materials Platform. Designed to accelerate the growth of Europe’s biomethane market, the mechanism is a voluntary, free of charge and innovative tool. The mechanism aims to help companies, investors and other stakeholders to find partners, develop biomethane projects and create new business opportunities.

It will also provide access to information about regulatory conditions at national and EU level and links to different financing opportunities at local and regional level. With geopolitical instability and ongoing pressure on energy markets, the Commission is adamant that a domestic, storable, and sustainable energy source can help reduce reliance on imported fossil fuels and strengthen Europe’s energy resilience.

EEX launches Biogas Production Certificates Registry in France

The European Energy Exchange (EEX) successfully launched the operation of the new biogas production certificate (CPBs – Certificats de Production de Biogaz) registry in France on Monday, 16 June. This initiative, mandated by the French Ministry in charge of Energy, aims to support the development of biomethane as a renewable energy source within the country.

The CPB scheme, established under the 2021 French Climate and Resilience Act, requires natural gas suppliers to offer their customers a minimum share of biomethane. This is achieved through an obligation to return CPBs to the French state, thereby promoting the integration of renewable gases into the national energy mix.

Scania signs agreement for new biogas buses in intercity operations

Transport operator Nobina will introduce 27 new Scania biogas buses into service on behalf of public transport authority Skånetrafiken. With low noise levels and low emissions, the vehicles underline the parties’ continued commitment to sustainable public transport.

Biogas is a renewable fuel produced from waste products, providing both CO₂ reductions and increased security in terms of fuel supply. A large part of Sweden's compressed biogas is produced locally, which means value creation occurs close to where the fuel is used.

The biogas buses will be introduced into service on the Malmö-Lund/Kristianstad routes and are specifically designed to Skånetrafiken's requirements. They are specified to fit longer journeys by including coach seats, a toilet, and additional interior options. Along with low noise levels from the biogas powertrain, passengers will be able to enjoy a high level of comfort.

Global Industry Leaders Urge GHG Protocol to Unlock Renewable Gaseous Fuels Markets Ahead of New Standard

As businesses, policymakers and civil society come together during London Climate Action Week to accelerate the vision of an inclusive and resilient net-zero transition, circa 90 global industry leaders have called on the GHG Protocol to unlock the full decarbonisation potential of renewable gaseous fuels.

Alongside the coordinators of Let Green Gas Count campaign – the World Biogas Association (WBA), the Anaerobic Digestion and Bioresources Association (ADBA), Eurogas, the European Biogas Association (EBA), the American Biogas Council, the Electric Natural Gas Coalition (e-NG Coalition), Molecule Group, the Coalition for Renewable Natural Gas (RNG Coalition), the signatories of the joint letter are calling for the GHG Protocol’s upcoming Actions and Market Instruments (AMI) standard to reflect the realities of existing markets and recognise the positive climate impacts of renewable gaseous fuels.

With 97% of S&P 500 companies reporting in accordance with the GHG Protocol, it is the world’s most widely used greenhouse gas accounting standard and plays a central role in dictating corporate decarbonisation strategies and investment decisions. Market actors, however, lack any guidance for the use of market-based instruments, severely stalling the financial support needed for the deployment of proven decarbonisation technologies.

Advances in Natural Gas Engine Technology to Power Heavy-Duty Fleets

Supply chain leaders are operating in an energy environment defined by competing pressures and a constantly shifting status quo. The conflict in Iran is pushing the global oil market to heights estimated to rival or even exceed the 2022 energy crisis, with prices hitting a four-year high in late April. Diesel prices have surged alongside this volatility, intensifying cost pressures and exposing the risks of relying on globally influenced fuel sources. Combined with decarbonization benefits and federal favoritism of American-made fuels, operators are increasingly looking toward domestic energy solutions to maintain service reliability and control escalating costs.

Advances in technology, paired with the rapid expansion of renewable natural gas (RNG) infrastructure, are now positioning natural gas as a commercially viable, performance-ready pathway for low-cost heavy-duty fleet operations. At the center of this shift is a new generation of high-efficiency natural gas engines, which allow supply chain leaders to conduct cost-effective, long-haul freight and take advantage of renewable and domestic energy benefits without sacrificing performance.
