Greenlane’s Latest News

Greenlane Renewables Announces New RNG Service Agreements Valued at Over $1.3 Million Across New and Recurring Customers

On Wednesday, August 27th Greenlane announced it has secured five new service agreements for renewable natural gas (“RNG”) project sites for which it previously provided biogas upgrading systems. The new agreements span the spectrum of Greenlane’s tiered maintenance package offerings, from essential service support to comprehensive parts and service. They also include a combination of recurring and new customers, reflecting strong demand for Greenlane’s offerings in support of ongoing RNG project optimization.

Among the five agreements, three were awarded by a major international energy company across multiple RNG facilities, representing continued trust in Greenlane’s technology and its parts and service expertise. The feedstock sources for these five project sites include dairy cow manure, food waste, and municipal wastewater treatment plant sludge mixed with source-separated organics. The biogas upgrading systems are across diverse core upgrading technologies.

RNG Positioned as Feedstock for Next-Gen Fuels

Industry experts are increasingly highlighting renewable natural gas (RNG) as a critical building block for emerging low-carbon fuels. At the RNG & Sustainable Aviation Fuels Summit, developers noted that RNG offers an immediate, scalable pathway to reduce lifecycle emissions while supporting new energy markets.

Companies are already exploring large-scale RNG-to-fuel facilities, reflecting the sector’s belief that RNG can complement and eventually displace other bio-feedstocks. As supply chains mature, RNG is expected to play a central role in decarbonizing hard-to-abate sectors, from heavy transport to industrial applications.

RNG-to-Fuel Pathways Face Crosswinds but Offer Long-Term Upside

The viability of RNG as a feedstock for advanced fuels remains under active debate, but consensus is clear on its role as a low-carbon, drop-in substitute for fossil natural gas. At the Houston RNG & SAF Summit, panelists emphasized the importance of policy support, cost reductions, and infrastructure investment to unlock RNG’s long-term potential.

Despite short-term hurdles such as higher production costs and limited incentives, momentum continues to build. Investors are seeking carbon-negative energy solutions, and RNG remains a proven option for lowering emissions while enabling new energy pathways.

U.S. Landfills Achieve Record Energy Capture, Investment

New analysis from the American Biogas Council (ABC) reveals a substantial rise in landfill biogas activity. As of August 2025, there are 589 operational landfill biogas facilities across the U.S.—an 18.5% increase since 2020. Over the past five years, these facilities boosted biogas capture capacity by 148 billion cubic feet (Bcf) to 521 Bcf annually, enough to power 3.3 million homes or fuel 5.2 million passenger vehicles. In 2024 alone, developers added a record 56.3 Bcf of capacity, with capital investment surpassing $1 billion per year in both 2023 and 2024.

Notably, of the 92 facilities opened since 2020, 77 are upgrading their gas to RNG, raising the proportion of landfill-output RNG from 19% to 40%. Current RNG capture stands at approximately 540.5 Bcf/year, enough to power 2.1 million vehicles. While RNG production has surged, about 60% of captured landfill gas—312.5 Bcf—still goes toward electricity generation or direct heating. State leaders include Pennsylvania (highest capture capacity), California (most facilities and investment), and significant growth in Texas, Michigan, and Illinois

RNG Gains Momentum in Long-Haul Trucking Sector

Long-haul trucking is increasingly turning to renewable natural gas (RNG) as a practical alternative to diesel and battery-electric trucks, thanks to RNG’s compatibility with existing engine and fueling infrastructure. Recent developments point to growing confidence in RNG’s viability as a low-carbon fuel option for heavy-duty transport.

This trend spotlights RNG's expanding market penetration and its ability to overcome common scale-up challenges.
