December 18th Issue of Greenlane Digest

IN THE NEWS

Greenlane (TSXV:GRN) is a pioneer in the rapidly emerging renewable natural gas (RNG) market. We work with waste producers, gas utilities, and project developers to turn low-value biogas into a valuable low-carbon clean energy resource.

Greenlane is a pure play in the RNG space, offering multiple core biogas upgrading technologies, in use and proven in the industry today. Biogas upgrading sales are forecasted by industry to grow at minimum 30% compound annual growth rate (CAGR) over the next five years in North America and Europe. Our demonstrated leadership in biogas upgrading, scope and breadth of product offerings, and 30+ years’ industry experience are fierce competitive advantages.

Today, we are a trusted partner globally and are ranked number one in installed capacity, having delivered more than 110 biogas upgrading systems in 18 countries and counting. We’ve learned a lot along the way. First to market in 11 of the 18 countries where our systems operate, we’re also proud to have supplied the systems for the largest RNG production facilities in North America and Europe, respectively.

UK supermarket giant ASDA is taking delivery of 202 biogas-fuelled trucks, which is believed to be the single largest commitment in the UK for heavy trucks running on renewable fuels.  The trucks, Volvo FH LNG units, mark a big step in ASDA’s ambitions to transition its entire core fleet of 1,000 units from diesel to gas by 2024, as internal trials showed that LNG trucks running on biomethane reduced CO2 emissions by more than 80%.

The Trudeau government released its strengthened climate plan, through which it seeks to cut GHG emissions by as much as 40% below 2005 levels by the end of this decade primarily through an aggressive increase in the carbon price to $170 per ton by 2030.  In addition, the government pledged $15 billion in new spending over the next ten years, including an investment of $1.5 billion in a low-carbon and zero-emissions fuels fund to increase the production and use of clean fuels, which includes RNG.

A new report from the Gas for Climate consortium highlights the scale-up of biomethane and hydrogen in Europe.  The report, developed by Netherlands-based Guidehouse, shows that biomethane production volumes are rapidly scaling up, production costs are starting to decrease, and natural gas grid injection levels are increasing.  The publication concludes that renewable and low-carbon gases are indispensable to fully decarbonize the EU energy system.

SoCalGas, the nation’s largest natural gas utility, had its request to offer RNG to its residential and commercial customers approved by the California Public Utilities Commission. The voluntary Renewable Natural Gas Tariff is an important step in helping California achieve its climate goals, and is a key part of SoCalGas' commitment to deliver 20 percent RNG to its core customers by 2030.
